More than 32 thousand ceramic fragments and 171 buildings will be restored and exhibited in the new museums where the Mayan Train will pass.
During the morning presidential conference, Diego Prieto, head of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), gave the weekly report on the archaeological rescue on the Mayan Train.
This time, he updated what archaeologists found in Section 2, which goes from Escárcega to Calkiní, in Campeche:
“171 relatively intact personal property. Which are in restoration processes for display in the new museums that we will be presenting throughout the Mayan Train area. 32,315 ceramic fragments, 281 human burials, most of them with associated offerings. And 165 natural features associated with the presence of human groups.”
In the archaeological zone of Xcalumkin, conservation tasks are already eleven percent complete. While in Edzná they are at 80 percent. It is in this area where Prieto Hernández confirmed the discovery of a new Mayan building.
