Magical Town Committees will promote actions and tourism in Tulum, Cozumel and Bacalar

The Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur) announced that the rules are already in place for those interested in being part of the Citizen Committee of Magical Towns, who will be in charge of promoting the actions and tourist activity of Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Cozumel and Bacalar. , depending on the municipal, state and national programs on the matter.

In this regard, the head of Sectur Miguel Torruco Marqués, stressed that the Citizen Committees of the Magic Towns will be made up of a minimum of five people residing in the municipality, whose economic activity is related to tourism and are active members of chambers and/or or sector associations, headed by the mayor of Pueblo Mágico; that is, a president, a coordinator, a technical secretary and two to four members.


According to Torruco Marqués, the person in charge of coordinating the four committees of Quintana Roo will be the state Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riesta; The committees will be chaired in Isla Mujeres by Atenea Gómez Ricalde; in Tulum, by Diego Castañón Trejo; in Cozumel, Juanita Alonso Marrufo; and in Bacalar, by José Contreras Méndez.

Likewise, the head of the State Secretariat in charge of tourism affairs will be the one who brings the issues concerning the Magical Towns of his state to the Asetur sessions, for discussion with his counterparts and the Tourism Secretariat of the Government of Mexico.


The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that the Citizen Committees of the Magical Towns will have a management period of three years, and may be re-elected for one or more years and must meet at least twice a year.

He reported that, in accordance with the provisions of the Third Transitory of the General Rules for the Integration and Operation of the Citizen Committees of Magical Towns, the first call for elections must be held no later than November 23, 2023.

“The Magical Towns have established themselves as the new tourist face of Mexico, whose natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth are strong travel motivators, attracting greater tourist flows, which contributes to increasing the economic benefit, benefiting the local population, in compliance with the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation,” concluded Torruco Marqués.
