The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (FONATUR) has already submitted the tender for the construction of the Cancun racetrack, which is expected to begin construction in February 2022.
The autodrome will have a nine kilometer long track, which can be modified according to the needs that arise. Well, since they want to promote its operation throughout the year; it is expected to host many more sports and events to continue promoting tourism.
It will be built near the Cancun International Airport and FONATUR comments that they have 200 hectares for its construction.
Rogelio Jiménez Pons, General Director of FONATUR, revealed that strategies are being promoted to boost tourism in Cancun, since that is the main economic activity in the region: "Not only do you think of a racetrack, but also shopping or business centers, we want to promote tourism in the region in any way, we know that Quintana Roo lives from it and of course there are plans to create many real estate projects that the private sector sees very favorably”, he said.
“Cancún is the first step, with priority projects, but we are also evaluating Mérida, which wants to grow and has a lot to do, there is still much to be revealed regarding the Mayan Train, which will undoubtedly be beneficial for everyone,” he concluded.
